Medical Marijuana for Kids..... REALLY?!?

I have this App on my iphone that lets me watch news clips. So every night before I go to bed I catch up on what is going on in the world. Anyway, this one really disturbed me. Especially when the mom says that she won't give her kid Ridilin but she will give him pot?!? Anyway, you have to see for yourself. Also, I want to know what you think. From a parent or teacher's point of view. What would you do if your student showed up high every morning because his/her parents are giving them medical marijuana? Just wondering.

  1. Personally I would rather something natural then something synthetic. Marijuana maybe considered a drug when taken with out a medical reason but I wold never give my children Ridilin it is a synthetic compound made to do the same thing as Marijuana. That's just me though if they do the same thing and one is natural I'd always go that route.

  2. P.S. I wouldn't give children either one. ADHD is a different way of thinking and is beautiful just because the public schools can't deal with it does not mean it should be treated! I know many people who have "ADHD" and are some of the most wonderful people whom I admire greatly! It's not something to be treated it's something to be nurtered.

  3. Oooh this is a very interesting 20/20/issue. Well, not being a mother or a teacher here is my two sense. Seeing as it's all natural/organic and legally prescribed, I see no problem w/ it. I don't know how the little boy really is or feels, but from the clips they showed anyway he truly seemed like he was suffering. Like his mom way saying, if medical marijuana is the prescribed drug that helps him cope and brings him happines, why not? One thing that concerns me though is the long-term effects from marijuana use. I don't know anything about that though, would be interested to learn. But I know riddilin has been illegally sold for years serving as yet another drug to get "high" from. So I think anything legally prescribed to the right person is okay. I guess this mom doesn't want the synthetic drugs used for her son? I feel so sad for this boy though and his mom. This must be extremely tough for them, his outbursts and behavioral problems plus the way they choose to remedy it and everyone's opinions about it...Tough stuff. I would just hope the little boy can live and be happy as much as he can. Good post, Shel!
